The work done in the Hemkin lab involves using mathematics and computing to help unlock the chemical mysteries of various biochemical processes.
Astrocytes appear to have an active role in brain function and signal processing, and the calcium oscillations within these cells have been implicated as a key player in these interactions.
We are exploring the possibility that biochemical systems can be analyzed using the ideas surrounding knot theory.
Rational Design and Neural Networks: We also have a project that involves using neural networks to help rationally design fluorinated serotonin receptor ligands.
